. On Wednesday, ‘ July 7 (writes a correspondent) the opening matches of the Southland Netball Association were played. Three teams from St. Catherine’s Convent set out in the afternoon to meet their opponents on the various courts chosen for them. Junior B. team encountered Technical junior A. on the High School grounds, and when

time was called the score stood at 68 to 4. Another game was played on St, . John’s grounds, j when St, Catherine’s junior A. met St. John’s team. The result was a second victory for St. Catherine’s, the score being 30 points to 4. A little later, news * came that St. Catherine’s senior A. team had beaten Melrose College B. team by, 64 to nil. The all-round. victory ’is the more surprising as netball was substituted for basketball at a ; few day’s notice, and little time could be spared for practice, as the College had received notice of the school inspector’s visit on the 12th July.
