On Sunday, June 13, the concluding day of the mission in the Sacred Heart Church, Ponsonby, his Lordship the Bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 156 children and adults. Fathers Mangan, O.SS.R., and Hannigan, C.SS.R., Carran, Hunt,, and Finn assisted on the occasion.

■, Rev. Father T. McCarthy, S.M., commenced a mission in .the Matamata parish on Sunday, June 13. He will visit Cambridge parish next. The Marist Missioners, Fathers Herring, Herbert, and Eccleton, opened a three-weeks’ mission at St. Benedict’s Church on Sunday, June 13. Rev. Father O’Leary, S.M., will arrive this week to replace Father Eccleton, S.M., who will resume the missions on the West Coast. His Lordship the Bishop will be on visitation in Ttiakau parish on Sunday morning, June 20. The anniversary Mass for the repose of the soul of the late Father James Patterson was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Thursday, June 17, at 10 o’clock. Rev. Father Buckley was celebrant, Fathers Colgan and Forde being deacon and subdeacon respectively, and Very Rev. Chancellor Holbrook master of ceremonies. Very Rev. Dean Cahill and Fathers Eccleton, S.M., Furlong, J. Murphy, Bradley, and Kelly were present. The music of the Mass was beautifully rendered by the choir of St. Patrick’s Convent School, assisted by Father Kelly. There was a large congregation. On Sunday, June 13, the annual procession of the Blessed Sacrament took place in the beautiful grounds of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Victoria Avenue,' Remuera. The clergy of the city and suburban parishes weie present, and there was a. large concourse of the laity. A very pleasant afternoon was spent by all who visited “Wonderland,” held in St. Patrick’s Convent School, ■which proved too small for the number of patrons, on Saturday, June 12. The basket-ball competitions worn keenly contested, as were also the musical items, dances, and recitations. Fathers Forde, Adm., and Bradley were present during the entire day, and did everything possible to help the busy workers, who labored so earnestly in the interests of their queen candidates. Financially too- the fete was a great success. The orchestra from St. Mary s Convent High School played delightful selections during the afternoon and evening, tho “Gloria” from Mozart’s Twelfth Mass being especially good. A mono- the players in the orchestra were the two Ponsonbv queen candidates, Misses Kiely and Grevatt. In the Catholic Women’s Hostel, “Ennore,” a ■ o-ifp evening” was held in the interests of the Parnell queen candidate. Miss O’Keefe. A number of fine gifts were brought by guests, and a goodly sum of money was subscribed during the evening.
