FAREWELL TO VERY REV. DEAN HYLAND, RANGIORA.

On Sunday, March 7, at Rangiora, a representative gathering assembled after Mass to bid farewell to the -Very Rev. Dean Hyland, who is leaving on a prolonged visit to his native land. On behalf of his parishioners and friends, Mr. John Cathenvood presented the Dean with a cheque for a substantial amount, and conveyed to him their gratitude for his untiring devotedness in their interests during the 21 years he has spent in their midst. Mr. S. J. Ryan also paid a tribute to the Dean's zeal as a priest and a citizen, and expressed the hope that ho would return renewed in health to again take up his good work. The Dean, in reply, sincerely thanked one and all for their great kindness to him during his sojourn there. He also expressed his gratitude for their splendid present, and hoped on his return to give a detailed . account of his travels. The Oxford. Kaiapoi, and Loburn portions of the parish each forwarded expressions of farewell, accompanied by monetary contributions, to the Dean. In the afternoon the Dean was the recipient of an umbrella and a handsome solid leather suit case. The presentation was made by Miss B. Boyd, on behalf of the Children of Mary. On Monday the school children presented their pastor with a gold pendant and pocket wallet. The Very Rev.
