WELLINGTON CATHOLIC WOMEN’S HOSTEL.

On November 30, 1919, the above institution completed the fourth year of its existence, and the Board of Management claim that the hostel is now a distinct factor in Catholic life in Wellington, and the experience of the past four years has proved the necessity of its existence. The property, which is situated in an ideal position, comprises half an acre of ground and a large, well-built house. It was held under lease for the first three years. It was then decided to purchase the property. This has been accomplished, and the hoard has undertaken the responsibility of extensive additions and alterations to provide extra accommodation, which is urgently required. A contract has been let for the work, at a cost of £2200, to be completed by February 28. Some months ago an appeal was made for funds, and met with a fair response, the amount of £I2OO being subscribed. This leaves the board faced with the responsibility of securing £IOOO during the next few weeks, and it is hoped that supporters of this very necessary institution will loyally assist the board to free the hostel, as far as possible, from debt. Donations will be thankfully received and acknowledged by the secretary or chairman of the board, if addressed to P.O. Box 958, Wellington. With the additional accommodation, the board will be better able to cater for girls travelling, as well as those coming to work in the city. The needs of the many immigrant girls who will arrive in the Dominion in tho near future will also be met, and they will be assured of a welcome amongst girls of their own faith.
