HIBERNIAN SOCIETY, CHRISTCHURCH.

February 2. The fortnightly meeting of St. Patrick’s branch of the H.A.C.B. Society was held in the Hibernian Hall on January 26. Bro. T. P. O’Rourke presided, and there was a good attendance of members. Bro. McCormick (sick visitor) reported on the various cases, and sick allowance (CIO 16s Sd) was passed for payment.. Three nominations for membership were received and two members were initiated. The quarterly balance sheet, presented by the secretary (Bro. Grimes) was received and adopted. The comments of the auditors (Bros. M. Garty and E. J. P. Walls) on the general state of the funds were of a complimentary nature, and they expressed appreciation of the work of the secretary. Accounts amounting to £63 os lOd were passed for payment. In reference to the picnic held recently the president (Bro. O’Rourke) moved a hearty vote of thanks to Bro. J. Close, who was the organiser of that enjoyable gathering. This was carried by acclamation. The work of Miss Conder, of St. Matthew’S (Ladies’) branch), in sending out circulars was also fittingly acknowledged. At the half-yearly meeting of St. Mary’s branch of ; the Hibernian Society, at which Bro. F. A. Roche, 8.P., presided, the following officers were elected for the ensuing half-year;—President, Bro. L. Dobbs; vice-president, Bro. Sheridan; secretary, Bro. H. Johnston; assistant secretary, Bro. Rodgers; treasurer, Bro. Anderson; warden, Bro. W.- J. F. Taylor; guardian, Bro. J. Byrne; sick visitors, Bros. Gunn and Orrnandy; auditors, Bros. Roche and Wagstaff; delegate to U.F.S. Dispensary, Bro. Johnston; delegate to U.F.S. Council, Bro. Wagstaff; delegate to Benevolent Association, Bro. Wagstaff. The installation of officers was performed by P.P. Bro. F. A. Roche. Very Rev. Dean Regnault congratulated the branch on its steady progress and practical activity. Bros. Gallagher and Young were appointed to supervise the juvenile branch for the half-year.

A large number of boys attended the half-yearly meeting of St. Mary’s Juvenile Hibernians, held in the Ozanam Lodge on February 28, Bro. M. Daly presiding. Bro. H. Shaw, the Cricket Club captain, reported having met with a generous response from the parishioners to his appeal for funds. The officers for the ensuing term are: President, Bro. W. Byrne; vice-president, Bro. C. Holley; secretary, Bro. L. Orrnandy; treasurer, Bro. C. Evans; warden, Bro. G. Archer; guardian, Bro. A. O’Flaherty.
