OBITUARY

MR. DAVID RYAN, ASHBURTON. On January 29, after a protracted illness, Mr. David Ryan, farmer, passed away peacefully at Ins residence, Ashton, Ashburton, fortified by the rites of Holy Church. The deceased was born in Banshee, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. He arrived in New Zealand in the year 1872'by the ship Dover Castle. For some years he resided in the Greenpark and Springston districts. After his marriage in 1876 he took up his residence in the Ashburton county, where he followed farming pursuits till the time of his death. The deceased, who was a staunch Catholic, had a great love for Ireland, and was of a kindly nature, ever willing and ready to do a good turn. Ho leaves a widow and grown-up family of four sons and four daughters to mourn their loss; one daughter predeceased him some few years ago. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the family in their sad bereavement. The funeral, which took place on Saturday, January 31, was largely attended. The Very Rev. Dean O’Donnell, V.G., officiated at the interment. —R.I.P.
