Milton

(From our own correspondent.) January 19. The annual meeting of the Milton branch of the N.Z. Catholic Federation was held last Sunday. The retiring executive was unanimously re-elected for the ensuing term, and an effort will bo made during the progress of the forthcoming mission to secure a record membership. At the same meeting the appointing of a Church Works' Committee resulted in the retiring committee, Misses T. Quill, E. Fahey, R. Grealish, and W. Kirby, being reappointed lor the year. The money available this year is to be expended on. improving the school grounds. There was a pleasant little gathering at the residence of Mr. Win. Kirby on Tuesday last, the occasion being a social evening and presentation, tendered by the members of St. Mary's Choir to Miss Gertrude Hand, prior to her marriage. Vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary items were contributed by Misses K. Healey, G. Hand, E. Coleman, K. Walsh, A. Athy, and O'Brien (Gore), Messrs. W. Kirby, R. Grealish, and W. Kent. In making the presentation to Miss Hand of a silver-mounted carving set, Mr. Kirby paid a very high tribute to the recipient for the many services rendered by lrer to the choir. She was (he said) an ideal member, and one any conductor would feel proud of, as at all times, due to her kindly disposition, her natural talent, strict attention and punctuality, she achieved all the virtues so desirable in a good choir member. On behalf of the choir the speaker extended to Miss Hand all good wishes for a full measure of happiness in her new home in the north. Mr. R. Grealish suitably responded for the recipient.
