DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN

The half-yearly meeting of the Diocesan Council of the Catholic Federation will be held to-morrow (Friday) evening. At Vespers in St. Joseph's Cathedral on last Sunday evening Rev. Father Falvey, 0.P., preached a line discourse on the subject of "Prayer." Rev. Father Marlow was on duty at St. Joseph's' Cathedral during the absence, on retreat, of the resident clergy. The diocesan clergy entered into their annual retreat, at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, on Monday evening. The retreat is to conclude on Friday. The Little Sisters of the Poor, Anderson's Bay, gratefully acknowledge the receipt of £1 Os 7id, the contents of the St. Anthony box at St. Patrick's Church, Orepuki. Missions, to be conducted by tho Marist Fathers, will open on next Sunday (25th inst.), at the following parish churches, the names of the missioners being given in parentheses : —Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Gore (Rev. Fathers Herring and Eccleton); Church of the Immaculate Conception, Milton (Rev. Fathers Ainsworth and O'Leary); St. Columba's Church, Riverton (Rev. Father Herbert); St. Mary's Church, Riversdale (Rev. Father McCarthy). Playing in first grade at Carisbrook on last Saturday, the Christian Brothers' cricket team lost to Carisbrook B by one run on a one innings match, the scores being Carisbrook 210, Christian Brothers 209. Tho highest scorers for the Christian Brothers were Higgins (71), Bond (38), Brown (20), Casey (16), Fogarty (16), and McCarten (11). In howling, Bond took five wickets for 40, and Casey five for 70. In the third grade matches Christian Broth (107 and six for 121) defeated Anderson's Bay (S and 16). For the winners Baker (50 not out), Wills (41), Reddington (19 and 12), Toomey (15), Moroney (11), Sheehy (11), Smith (16), batted well. Baker (seven for 2) and Sheehy (three for 2) secured the wickets for the Christian Brothers in the first innings, as did Brookes and Moroney in the second.
