THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL.
An important point has been raised by the French Conferences of St. Vincent de Paul which has presented itself in various departments of France, as legal guardian under the scheme for the pupils of the nation, which is to benefit the orphans of the war. Several Prefects have welcomed this proposal and acceded to it, while others have refused to recognise the great Catholic Society. In the v latter case an appeal was made to the Council of State, and an important judgment has now been given which recognises the Conferences of St. Vincent de Paul as appropriate legal guardians for the children under the national scheme.
