(From our own correspondent.) March 11. On a recent Sunday, Father G. Van Beek, who has charge of the extensive East Coast parochial district, with Tologa Bay as the centre, celebrated the 10 o'clock Mass (Missa Cantata) in St. Mary's Church, and in the evening preached an impressive sermon on
Devotion to the H01y,5 Souls, and give Benediction of the Blessed .Sacrament. Mr. Syd Lewis presided, at the organ and gave. a fine rendering of a sacred selection. The members of St. Patrick's branch of the Hibernian Society, in regalia, "are to approach the Holy Table in a body on Sunday, March 16, in honor of the Feast of St. Patrick. A picture entertainment has been arranged by the Catholics of Gisborne for the evening of St. Patrick's Day. , : ■'. On Ash Wednesday, at the special distribution of the ashes to the Catholic school children, the very large number who were in attendance furnished impressive evidence of the importance the Catholics of Gisborne attach to the religious education of their children.
