Fraser, M.P. for Wellington Central, and officer in charge of the Citizens' Epidemic Committee for Wellington Central, has through the local press expressed the gratitude of the committee to Father Hurley, S.M., Adm., and the Sisters of Compassion, for their splendid, services during the epidemic. The Boxing Day Picnic Committee met last Wednesday evening at St. Patrick's Hall, Mr. J. J. L. Burke presiding. Among those present were Fathers Hurley, S.M., Adm., and Smyth, S.M., Adm. It was decided to change the location of the picnic this year to Seatoun Park. Chaplain-Father Segrief and Capt. R. J. Grant, when in Rome recently had the privilege of a semiprivate audience with his Holiness the Pope ; and also had the pleasure of attending Mass offered by his Holiness and receiving Holy Communion from his venerable hands. Both are now in England and expect to return shortly. St. Patrick's College is still in use as a temporary hospital, and St. Anne's Hall is also being continued as a convalescent hospital. The former is under the •control of Father Gilbert, S.M., M.A., Rector, and the Sisters of Compassion, whilst the latter is being looked after by the Ven. Archdeacon Devoy, S.M., and the Sisters of Mercy, Newtown. The epidemic of influenza has caused the death of Mr. M. H. Fitzgibbon, son of Mrs. Fitzgibbon, of St. Anne's parish, and brother to the late Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon, LL.B. The deceased took a prominent part in the affairs of St. Patrick's Church, Kilbirnie, where he resided. He leaves a wife and young family to mourn their loss. —R.I.P. Mr. Edward Quinlivan, an esteemed member of the Hibernian Society, died on Wednesday last and was interred on Thursday. The deceased was a single man, and his sister. Miss Josephine Quinlivan, predeceased him by a few days. He was a brother of Mr. T. Quinlivan, manager of the State Coal Depot, Dunedin, who is now serving with the N.Z. Expeditionary Forces.—R.l.P. Playing in a cricket match against an Ordnance team on Saturday, December 7, Marist Old Boys lost three wickets for 178 runs, the chief scorers being Carruthers' (73 not out) and Hayden (48). Ordnance scored 128. In the match Marist 3rd grade v. Celtics, the scores wereMarists 157, Celtics 120. For Marist the chief scorers were Costelloe (54 not out), Hyland (32), Leday (21), Reid (13), Sigley (14). Bowling for Marist Watson took four wickets and Costelloe three.
