The members ,of St. Joseph's Glee Club are preparing for their first concert, which is intended to be given in about a fortnight. On. last Sunday evening Father (Chaplain) O’Neill, who lately returned from the Front, preached at Vespers in St. Joseph’s Cathedral, and afterwards gave Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament* On Friday, Feast of All Saints, Masses will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cathedral at 6.30, 7, 8, and 11 o'c’ock. Mass will be celebrated also at NorthEast Valley at 7, Kaikorai at 8.30, and Moruingtou at 10 o’clock. On Saturday (Feast of All Souls) Masses will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cathedral at 6, 7 (Solemn High Mass), and 8 o’clock ; and at North-East Valley at 7 o’clock. . - The Christian Brothers’. Cricket Club opened the season last Saturday on the Carisbrook grounds with an attendance of 22 members. It was pleasing to notice a number of Christian Brothers’ cricketers of former years present, and it is hoped many of these will again join the ranks and enable a first ; grade team to be formed. A successful practice match was played, and the form generally shown indicated that a strong combination will be able to take the field this season. The ladies of St. Joseph’s Red Cross and Patriotic Guild will be grateful to country residents for donations towards stocking the Red Cross sales depot, which they have been asked to control on Saturday, November 9. The members of the guild trust to the generosity of their many friends to help them to make the occasion a record success. Donations may be sent to Mrs. A. H. Stone, care of St. Joseph’s Hall, Rattray Streeet; to Mrs. Todd (secretary), Ings Avenue, St. Clair; Mrs. J. J. Marlow, Musselburgh ; or to Mrs. Mullin, 7 Wynford Street, South Dunedin.

A most successful eight days’ retreat for the Children of Mary, South Dunedin, conducted by Father Kilbride, C.SS.R,, was brought to a close in St, Pat-

rick’s Basilica oh last Sunday evening, when 33 young ladies received the different • distinguishing badges of the association. ■- The attendance throughout the week at the 6 o’clock Mass,. as well as at the evening" devotions, was exceptionally large, the Convent chapel being now. • almost, inadequate to accommodate the numbers who avail themselves of these annual spiritual exercises. It must be extremely • gratifying to the Spiritual Director (Father Delany) to know that so many approached the Holy Table each morning. The Papal Blessing was imparted at a special meeting on Sunday afternoon, when the zealous missioner, in an earnest, practical discourse, urged the sodalists to persevere unto death as faithful children of their Immaculate Mother. On Monday morning, when a Requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of the souls of deceased members, the Children of Mary, in their usual spirit of charity, were present and united with the celebrant in offering their Holy Communions for their departed Sisters.
