CATHOLIC INSTITUTE, TRENTHAM MILITARY CAMP

The Catholic Hall at Trentham Military Camp was crowded on Friday evening, June 7, by men of the various Reinforcements, on the occasion of an entertainment kindly given by a party of friends. An enjoyable programme (each number receiving the compliment of a recall) was contributed to by Mrs. Pearce, Misses E. Driscoll and G. Watkins, Messrs. Mellish and Goudie, songs; Mrs. Pearce and Miss Driscoll, instrumental duet; Miss M. Butler, recitations; and concluded with a comedietta, in which Misses Watkins and Driscoll, Messrs. Mellish and Goudie took part. After the singing of the National Anthem hearty cheers were given for the concert party. The hall was tastefully decorated. On last Thursday night week in the Catholic Institute, Trentham camp, the Rev. Father Guinane, chaplain to the Catholic soldiers in training, was preented with a case of pipes and a silver-mounted tobacco pouch. Private Robert O'Brien, of the camp quartermaster's department of the home service, made the presentation, and in a neat speech referred to the chaplain's good qualities and his unwearied services m the interests of the Catholic soldiers, and expressed the regret which all ranks felt at his approaching departure from the camp. The presentation speech was followed by a few well-chosen remarks from Sergeant J. Coughlan, of the musketry staff, and by Private C. Kerr. Father Guinane suitably replied.
