M. 8.0.8. ASSOCIATION, CHRISTCHURCH
The annual meeting of the Marist Brothers' Old Boys' Association Football Club, was held oh Thursday evening, March 14, the Rev. Brother Palladius presiding over a fair attendance. The report submitted by the secretary (Mr. P. Greenlees), stated that last season had been a successful one both from a playing and a financial standpoint. The club had during the year been considerably weakened by the departure of men who were now doing their duty with the reinforcements for King and Country, and many of the boys had made the supreme sacrifice. A motion of condolence with those who had lost their lives at the front was carried in silence, the members standing. The balance sheet, which was adopted, showed receipts amounting to £39 13s lOd, and expenditure of £36 3s 6d, leaving a balance in hand of .£3 10s 4d. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury Rugby Union with regard to the proposed programme of matches for the coming year. The sub-committee appointed by the union to go into the question had suggested that the ordinary competitions be again suspended, and in place thereof the following be held: (1) First Grade competition, open to members of clubs irrespective of age ; (2) Second Grade (open) ; (3) Third Grade (open) ; (4) Fourth Grade, for players who have not reached their sixteenth birthday on April 1, 1918. The union also recommends that more attention be given to the coaching of younger players. It was decided that the club's delegates to the Rugby Union be given a free hand to act in these matters. Officers for the ensuing year are as follow: Patron, his Lordship Dr. Brodie : president, Sir Geo. Clifford ; vice-presidents—Rev. Dr. Kennedy, Rev. Fathers Price and Lone:, Dr. Morkane, Messrs. W. Rodgers, J. Power, T. Cahill, Geo. Pavne, J. R. ITavward. S. Flood, D. J. Shea, M. Garty. and O. McGough ; chairman and club captain, Rev. Brother Palladius: deputv captain, Mr. J. C. Mullins : secretary, Mr. P. Greenlees ; treasurer, Mr. G. Dobbs; committee—Messrs E. Fitzgerald, T. Gee, B. Flood, D. McCormack, and J. McQuillan. The chairman extended a heartv welcome to their old player, Mr. J. C. Mullins, who had returned from the front and was ready again to don the green jersey. Replving to the warm reception accorded him, this popular player referred to the number of clubmates he had met and played with when on active service, and assured members that all were upholding the very best traditions of the club. A special vote of thanks was accorded to the Tablet for the kindlv treatment extended to the club in its columns during the past season.
