The secular clergy of the archdiocese concluded their annual retreat, which was conducted by the Very Rev. Father Lynch, :, C.SS.R., at St;- Patrick's College, last Friday. The . Marist Fathers of the archdiocese commenced their retreat to-day. .-The chairman ; of : the Wellington Harbor Board (Mr. C. E. Daniell) informed the board at its meeting last night that Major D. J. Gibbs. of the head office staff, had received the distinction of D.S.O. Mr. Gibbs (he said) had been 21 years in the service of the board, which ; decided to heartily congratulate him on his success. Major Gibbs is an old boy of the Marist Brothers' School. I very much .regret to record the death of Mrs. James Stratford, wife of Mr. James Stratford, treasurer of St. Aloysius' Branch of the H.A.C.B. Society, and . a well known worker in Church matters, which occurred unexpectedly after a few days' illness at her residence, 13 Torquay Terrace, on Wednesday last. The deceased lady, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Stacey, Adelaide Road, was only 39 years of age, and was a staunch Catholic. , The interment took place on Friday, prior to „which. the Rev. Father Mark Devoy, who attended the deceased in her last illness, offered up a Requiem Mass. The officers of the Hibernian Society acted as pall-bearers. To her husband and her three young children is extended the deepest sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.—R.l. P. Mr. Alfred Patrick Gorman, second assistant Land Registrar in the Wellington Land and Deeds Office, died on Monday morning at his" residence in Glen Road, Kelburn, after a long and severe . illness. The deceased, who had won the esteem of his .brother officers and the general public by his courtesy and readiness to oblige, was 48 years of age. He has left a widow. The late Mr. Gorman was also well known in Napier, Dunedin, and Auckland, where he had held positions in the Land and Deeds Office. He was an old boy of St. Patrick's College, and during his illness he was attended by the Rev. Father Dignan,; S.M. The funeral, which was private, took place on Friday. Requiem Mass was offered by the Rev. Father Dignari at St.' Vincent de Paul's Thorndon suburban church. Amongst , those ,' present % were Messrs. G. G. Bridges (Registrar-General, Lands); J. J. L. Burke (Examiner of Titles), and members, of the staff of the Land and Deeds Office, four, of whom acted as pall-bearers, J. E.
