(From our own correspondent.) October 8. Privates W. Lennou and H. Hyland have recently returned home invalided from the front, and it is pleasing to report that both are making a rapid recovery. The local Catholic Presentation and Social Committee for departing Catholic soldiers still continue activities. The recently welled men have been the recipients of useful presents, accompanied with the kind regards of their friends. Lieutenant Frank Brophy, returned from the front on commission duty, is spending a few weeks at his home. Lieutenant Brophy, who was wounded at the Somme, looks in good form, and recounts many interesting narratives of war experiences. The secretary of the Ashburton Catholic Red Cross branch supply the following as the list of garments, bandages, and knitting for the past three months: —' —Two dressing gowns, 5 lounge suits, 1 vest, 6 bed jackets, 6 singlets, 17 under pants, 29 shirts, 21 pyjamas, 36 chest bandages, 240 manitails, 60 T bandages, 1 balaclava, 13 pairs socks, 5 pairs bed socks. August Sixteen singlets, 19 under pants, 1 lounge suit, 20 pyjamas, 29 shirts, 6 vests, 2 dressing gowns, 113 triangular bandages, 240 manitails, 30 T bandages, 13 chest bandages, 3 balaclavas, 4 pairs bed socks, 6 pairs socks, 6 foot slings.
