ROLL OF HONOR
* , ♦ SAPPER P. HICKEY. Sapper P. Hickey, son of Mrs. E. Hickey, Dunrobin, Heriot, left New Zealand with the Field Engineers of the 9th Reinforcements. He was reported drowned in France on November 23, 1916.
TROOPER E. M. McCARTHY. Trooper Edward Michael McCarthy, of the Imperial Camel Corps, but formerly of the 9th New Zealand Reinforcements, is reported wounded in the left ankle and admitted to the 24th Stationary Hospital at Kantara. He was born at South Hillend 25 years ago, is the second son of Mr. A. McCarthy, and after leaving the local school, worked at home on the farm. Trooper McCarthy was wounded in the operations on the Egyptian desert. PRIVATE W. KELLEHER. Writing to the parents of Private W. Kelleher his Lordship Bishop Cleary says : —' I have profound regret in having to convey to you the sad news of the death of your son, at a hospital in France. The bright side of the news is that he was prepared for his journey to (I hope and believe) a better land, he having died fortified by the rites of the Church. He was also buried
according to the sacred .rites of the Church in consecrated ground.' I have remembered your dear boy’s soul at the altar, and pray God, the Comforter of the afflicted, to give his parents and- family consolation in their bereavement.’
