Hokitika

(From our own correspondent.) February 27. I regret to record the death of Audrey Malfroy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Malfroy, Hampden Point, after an operation in the Westland Hospital. Audrey Malfroy was 10J years of age, and very much beloved by all who knew her. The sorrowing parents have the sympathy of the whole community.R.l.P. A very successful social gathering was held in St. Mary's Club rooms on Wednesday evening last, when the members of that club and their lady friends met to farewell Messrs. E. and J. Grbufsky. who have gone into camp. The Mayor (Mr. G. Perry) occupied the chair and made the % presentations, which consisted of a safety razor, and to" Mr. J. Groufsky a wristlet watch, the gift of Mr. T. Stopforth. The Mayor congratulated the young men on the step they were taking, and hoped they would be spared to return to Hokitika, where in happier times they could recount their experiences. Messrs. Wormington, Dwan, and Ross sup-

plemented the Mayor’s remarks, after which the recipients replied, expressing thanks for the useful gifts. The singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne’ and the National Anthem terminated a pleasant gathering.
