THANKSGIVING DAY MASS AT WASHINGTON

The annual Pan-American celebration of Thanksgiving Day took place in St. Patrck’s Church before a crowded congregation. Cardinal Gibbons, Bishop O’Connell, Bishop Corrigan, and a score of priests were in the sanctuary. The Secretary of State, the Chief Justice of the United States, three other members of the Cabinet, three other members of the Supreme Court, the ambassadors of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Dominica, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Panama, officers of the Salvador army and navy, and other notable persons too numerous to mention were present. The Bishop of Richmond preached a patriotic sermon. There was fine music and beautiful decorations. After the Mass, Mgr. Russell entertained the ambassadors, the Secretary of State, and other distinguished guests at a dinner in the rectory. He also presented to them as a souvenir a silver medal of the Prince of Peace.
