‘ A Roman Catholic/ writing to the London Times on August 6, points out that the news of the recent defeat of the Turks at Romani came with special appropriateness and interest on August 6, ‘ for on that date the Roman Calendar marks a feast day instituted to commemorate one of the most famous, victories of Christendom over the Sultans/ that achieved by the Crusaders under Huhyadi and the heroic Franciscan monk Sir John. Capistran in 1456. Pope Calixtus ordained that the Feast of the Transfiguration should be established in thanksgiving, and on Saturday last, August 6, it was observed throughout the Catholic world. '
