OBITUARY

MRS. E. McKEWEN, DUNEDIN. The" many friends of Mrs. Edward McKewen, will hear with regret of her death, which occurred on October 3 at her residence, 435 Cumberland street, Dunedin, where she resided for over fifty-two years. The deceased lady was well known for her sympathy and kindness to all in sickness and trouble. Her husband predeceased her by two and a-half years. She leaves a family of seven to mourn their —Messrs. James, William, and John McKewen (Dunedin), Mr. Edward McKewen (Port Chalmers), Mrs. J. Swan (George street, Dunedin), Mrs. J. Dealy (Wellington), and Miss McKewen (Dunedin).—R.l.P. SISTER MARY AMBROSE, REMUERA. At St. Joseph's Convent, Remuera, on Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, Sister Mary Ambrose McGree passed peacefully to her eternal reward in the 47th year of her age. The solemn dirge for the repose of her soul was commenced at St. Michael's Church, Remuera, at 9 a.m. on the 14th inst. Right Rev. Mgr. Gillan, V.G., presided. Amongst the clergy present were Right Rev. Monsignori Brodie, V.G. (Parnell) and Mahoney (Onehunga), Very Rev. Father Buckley (Otahuhu), Rev. Fathers Murphy, Golden (Ponsonby), Kelly (St. Benedict's), Cab ill, Dunphy, Spehring (St. Patrick's), Patterson (Takapuna), Furlong (Devonport), Doyle (Remuera), Tormey (Ellerslie),. Bowen (Whangarei), also Rev. Brothers George, Phelan, and Ilypolite. The Sisters of Mercy, Sisters of the Mission, Little Sisters of the Poor, and Sisters of Compassion were also represented in the congregation, and kneeling close to the catafalque were about thirty Sisters of St. Joseph. The church was packed to the doors with school children, old pupils, and friends of the Sisters. Requiem Mass was sung by Rev.' Father Forde, who also pronounced the final Absolutions. The deceased Sister was a daughter of Mr. McGree, a well-known and much-respected resident of Sydney. She completed her education at St. Joseph's Convent, Penrith (N.S.W.), under Mother Baptista, now Mother-General of the Order, and joined the community over thirty years ago. More than twenty-five years of her religious life were spent in charge of the Remuera community. Previously she had labored in the Lithgow, Penrith, and Cumberland street (Sydney) communities. For many years Sister Ambrose suffered acutely, but hexillness was always borne with cheerful and patient resignation. Her remains were followed to the Panmure Cemetery by the priests and religious above mentioned, as well as a large number of friends. The prayers at the graveside were read by Rev.
