During the month of October devotions in honor of our Lady will be held in St. Mary’s Church every evening at 7 o’clock. The Very Rev. Dean Hills, S.M., Adm., whose health has been the cause of anxiety to his many friends, is sufficiently recovered, from his recent attack of illness to resume his duties. At the meeting of the parish committee, presided over by the Very Rev. Dean Hills, S.M., on Sunday last, it was decided to hold the annual picnic this year at Amberley. It was also decided to call tenders for the extension of the brick fence in front of the presbytery. The library, instituted by the Federation committee, is to be opened on Sunday, October 3. A good selection of books by the best authors has been secured, and these will be augmented from time to time. The annual subscription is fixed at five shillings, and it is expected that the library will prove a boon to the parish. On Friday, September 24, the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy, Mass was celebrated in the convent chapel of the Sisters of Mercy at 7 o’clock by the Very Rev. Dean Hills. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament immediately followed, and was kept up all day, concluding with Benediction in the evening. The school children and friends attended in large numbers during the day. ° The quarterly meeting of St. Mary’s branch of the Hibernian Society was held in Ozanam Lodge on Monday, September 20. The president (Bro. J. Kaveney) presided over a fair attendance of members. After the usual routine business had been dealt with, the members of the executive of the United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary Board, who were present, gave a report of the workings of the dispensary since its inception, which showed it to be in a very satisfactory position. Accounts amounting to Ell Os 6d were passed for payment.
