On Friday afternoon we 'received the following cable message from Rev. ■; Father Kehoe/ Sydney, with reference- to the condition of .his > Lordship Bishop Cleary: - After the /Bishop’s second, operation last week, he had three days and three" nights of high fever of over one : hundred and four 'degrees, with delirium. But do not think of me only as a sufferer. I am only passing through a space of a shadow, but the shadow is the shadow of God’s own gentle and protecting- Hand. « So much of physical suffering as He ha's mercifully . blessed me with, has been merely a ’ darkened i avenue -‘H to great joy. For, in His own sweet and winning way, - ? He has used it to bring me closer and closer to Himself ; and He has given to me,; many a time, those inner -££ joys that are a noble compensation'for any'bodily pain. And if, in addition, this illness has brought your S hearts nearer to mine, it is an added blessing for me, - ;? whose heart enfolds you all with a deep fatherly affection. ’ Thus, I send to you • all my : dear love, in God £ and for Him? It will be a great joy to me, if God will that I shall again see the dear faces of my loved people ; just as, in equal and happy- acceptance of His most Holy Will, it will be my supreme joy, if He call me to Himself. Pray for one who loves you . all most deeply in the dear Lord of us all, and may the light - of His grace and the smile of His joy be ever in your £ I souls.’ This message was given by the Bishop on - - August 29, the day before his second operation, which .' ?■ was of a very serious ? nature ; considering the Bishop’s ?
