(From our own correspondent.) On Friday evening, June 19, St. Mary's Young Men’s Club entertained the parishioners at a. musical evening in the parish hall. Items were contributed by Mr. Leo O’Malley, Mrs. Watson, and the Glee Club. During the interval the following prizes were presented Diploma, won by Thomas Roach, in oratorical competition, under the jurisdiction of Federated Catholic Clubs ; Edward McGar.rigle, diploma for meritorious service awarded by Federated Catholic Clubs. Prizes were also presented to Messrs. Lall'crty, O’Leary, and McCarthy, winners of the debating contest at Thames, and to Messrs. O’Malley, Sweeney, and McCarthy, winners of the debate at the conference of the Goldfields Catholic Clubs. A quartet by the choir, an item by the Glee Club, and a song by Mr. Simpson concluded the evening’s entertainment. Lincoln (From an occasional correspondent.) On Friday afternoon the ladies of Lincoln met in the ladies’ Pioneer Clubroom, and tendered a farewell social to Mrs. M. J. Corrigan, who is leaving the district to reside in South Canterbury. The original intention had been for the residents of the district to tender to Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan a public farewell, but Mr. Corrigan, with characteristic modesty, considered Ins services to the district insufficient to merit public recognition, and informed Iris friends that he, while appieciating the generosity that prompted their desire, preferred to depart quietly. In the absence of the president (Mrs. Gellatly), Mrs. W. Stoddart, who took the chair, made the presentation of a handbag to Mrs. Corrigan, and remarked that she had known her since childhood. She regretted Mrs. Corrigan’s departure, and paid a tribute to her work as secretary of their club, a position they would find difficult to fill so capably. Mrs. J. Todd also made Mrs. Corrigan a presentation, in the form of a well-bound prayer book, and in doing so said she had-known her for many years. In reply, Mrs. Corrigan feelingly responded, and 'expressed her sincere regret at parting from so many friends. The gifts, she could assure them, would bo treasured as mementos of the pleasant times she had spent % with hei‘ fellow members. At the conclusion of the presentation refreshments were handed round, and an enjoyable social hour was spent. 'r ’ q ,-v - “
