Ponsonby

(From our own correspondent )

On Tuesday, June 9, the Feast of St. Columba was celebrated in a fitting manner by the boys of St. Columbia’s School, Ponsonbv. After assisting at. Mass and receiving Holy Communion, the pupils assembled in the school hall, where they were addressed by Very Rev. Father Holbrook, who gave a brief and interesting account of the life of St. Columba, who shares with St. Patrick and St. Brigid the distinction of being Ireland’s patron saint. lie then blessed and unveiled a statue of the saint, presented by himself to the school, and procured in Dublin during his recent visit to Ireland. The pupils then sang a hymn to St. Patrick and ‘ Faith of our fathers,’ under the baton of Brother Henrick, who has charge of the school during the absence of the director (Brother Phelan). After a vote of thanks to Father Holbrook for his kindness had been proposed by Brother George and carried unanimously in the usual school-boy fashion, the rest of the day was observed as a holiday.
