December 28. The usual services were held at St. Mary’s Church on Christmas bay, the first Mass being celebrated at midnight. There was a very large congregation, all the available seating accommodation being occupied. Rev. Father Clancy was celebrant, and was assisted by the Rev. Father O’Sullivan, C.SS.R. The sermon, appropriate to the day’s' festival, was preached by the Rev. Father Clancy. The choir, under the conductorship of Mr. R. Phillips, rendered Gounod’s Mass in G. The half-yearly meeting of the H. A.C.B. Society was held in St. Mary’s Club rooms on December 29. The election pf officers resulted as follows:President, Bro. N. Warren (re-elected) ; vice-president, ' Bro. Dwan ; secretary, Bro. Malavey; -minute secretary, Bro. Downey; treasurer, Bro. W. Jones (re-elected); guardian, Bro. Kane warden, Bro. Cahill (re-elected); sick visitors, Bros. Callan and J. Pickering. After the election of four new members the .meeting terminated. The Rev. Father O’Sullivan, C.SS.R,, is at present in Hokitika conducting a retreat for the Sisters of Mercy. > , ' ’
