ST. MARY’S CONVENT, WESTPORT

St. Mary’s College was the scene of an interesting function on the occasion 'of the distribution of prizes gained at the term examinations. A short programme of musical items was : gone 'through very creditably. The opening chorus, ‘ Distant chimes,’ by the pupils, was very well rendered, the voices blending beautifully, the expression being good, and the pitch well maintained. A pianoforte solo by Miss Parsons followed, which was well played. A dainty chorus, ‘ Bring me a rose,’ by junior pupils, was very pretty, and was much appreciated. Little Miss Freda Drew attracted much applause for her rendering of ‘ Little orphint Annie.’ An attractive item was a musical monologue by Miss Clarice Taylor, and Miss Violet Russell sang very prettily a sweet song, Because I am blind.’ Other items followed, and in all the pupils acquitted themselves to everyone's satisfaction. The rewards were then distributed by the Yen. Archpriest Walshe. The-prize list ’is as follows: Christian doctrine (gold medal) —Elinor Mears. Good conduct (gold medal, presented by the Yen. The following list of marks obtained by St. Mary’s College examination, conducted under the auspices of the Correspondence Federal Business College of Sydney is just to hand. As will be seen, the percentage of marks is very high, and is a good indication that commercial work is well worthy of attention. The Principal of the above college stafes: ‘ 1 am more than pleased with the excellent work sent me in every section. There is plenty of evidence before me that the training of these pupils is being conducted oh the right lines, and it is easy to see that the pupils are industrious and intelligent.
