CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, PALMERSTON NORTH

The Empire Hall, Palmerston North, was well filled on the evening of December 11, on the occasion of the breaking-up ceremony and prize-giving to the pupils of the Convent High School. His Grace Archbishop Redwood and his Grace Archbishop O’Shea were present and participated in the prize-giving, and were accompanied by the local clergy. A splendidly arranged programme oi musical items and dances occupied the first part of the evening, and was given entirely by pupils. The items were all artistically rendered, and reflected the carefulness with which the girls are trained by the Sisters of Mercy. Amongst those assisting was Miss Kearins, who made such a successful debut at the last concert of the senior pupils of the convent. The items were:Piano trio,'Misses V. Bartlett, M. Cameron, J. There were also three pretty tableaux, which were heartily applauded by the audience, He last depicting Christmas greetings. His Grace Archbishop Redwood said it gave him and Archbishop O’Shea great pleasure in being present. He congratulated the Sisters and their pupils alike for the wonderful record they had put up for the past year, and that, as regards the entertainment and tableaux, he had never been better pleased or more edified than what he had heard and-seen that evening. Wishing all an enjoyable holiday and happy Christmas and New Year. Archbishop O’Shea also expressed his pleasure at being present for the first time at their breaking-up, and hoped those going out into the world and not to return would bear pleasing remembrance of the school where they had learnt so much.
