Temuka Catholic Club
The ninth annual meeting of the above club took place in the club rooms on Tuesday evening, April 8, the president (Mr. E. B. Gillespie) presiding over an attendance of some thirty or forty members. The annual report and balance sheet, which were read by the secretary, were considered satisfactory, and after a small amount of discussion, were adopted. The question of continuing to enter teams for the football competitions, provoked a lively discussion. Mention was made of the difficulty experienced in the past in obtaining a sufficient number to travel, and after the pros and cons were considered it was decided to allow this branch to lapse for the forthcoming season. This decision went further, and was responsible for the annual subscription being considerably reduced. It was decided to hold weekly meetings on Tuesday evenings, and to enter more into the literary and debating branch, all members present speaking of the good work that had already been accomplished in this direction. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:—Spiritual director, Rev. Father Kerley; president, Mr. John Scott; senior vice-presi-dent, Mr. Jas. Farrell ; junior vice-president, Mr. Jas. Fitzgerald; secretary, Mr. R. P. Connell; treasurer, Mr. C. Creevey; executive, officers (ex officio), and Messrs. E. B. Gillespie, A. Scott, T. Knight, M. Fitzgerald, and F. D. O'Connell.
