A wealthy young Hawke’s Bay Native named Rangi Kerehoma applied to Judge Gilfedder in the Native Land Court, Wellington, last week, for a recommendation to the Governor to declare him a European, under section 17 of 4 The Native Land Amendment Act, 1912.’ Mr. Beard appeared on behalf of the applicant, who is 25 years of age, has a competent knowledge of the English language,, and has been a student at Wanganui College and St. Patrick’s College. He is worth between £60,000 and £70,000. When he came of age he obtained £II,OOO, and he spent £3OO of this in beautifying his home in Hawke’s Bay and £6OOO in acquiring a farm near Masterton. Judge Gilfedder said a report would be sent to the Minister in due course.
