' (From our own correspondent.) . Two of the pupils attending St. Joseph’s School, Paeroa, gained proficiency certificates in the recent examination by the inspector of the Board of Education, and, according to his report, the percentage of passes in the different standards has not been surpassed in any school in the Dominion. An eloquent and impressive sermon on Catholic federation was preached by Very Rev. Dean Hackett on Sunday evening at St. Mary’s Church, Paeroa. In the course of his remarks Dean Hackett referred to the great influence of Catholics in America and Germany in combating the anti-Catholic social evils of the day. In concluding his address, he hoped that all Catholics in his parish of twenty years and over would form themselves into a solid body, not for aggressive, but defensive purposes. The names of those wishing to join the Catholic Federation will be taken after Mass next Sunday ; at Paeroa, and at Karangahake immediately after Benediction on the same day.
