BRIBING THE DOG

A butcher’s lad went to deliver some meat at a house where a fierce dog was kept. The lad entered the backyard, when the dog at once pinned him against the wall. In a minute or two the mistress of the house ran out and drove the animal off. ‘Has he bitten you?’ she asked. ‘ Noa,’ said the lad. ‘Aa kept him off by giving him your suet; an’ ye just cam’ in time to save the beef.’
