(By telegraph, from our own correspondent.) November 12. The bazaar at Otahuhu, which concluded last Saturday night, is expected to realise £2OO. Rev. Father Tigar, O P., leaves this week for the Great Barrier Island to give a mission there. Very Rev. Dean Mahoney, of Onehunga, is expected to return from his trip Home in January next. The Ellerslie bazaar concluded on last Saturday night, when it was announced by Rev. Father Ormond that a sum of £250 had been netted. His Lordship the Bishop, is to leave early next week, on a visitation ol the diocese, and .is not expected back to the city until close on Christmas. His Lordship Bishop Yerdon and Monsignor O’Leary arrived here on Sunday morning, and are the guests of his Lordship Bishop Cleary.Rev. Father Tormey, writing from Dublin to a friend, said he intended to spend the latter part of the month of October in Rome. He had arranged to leave Italy on his return to New Zealand early in November. On his way out he had arranged to visit Egypt and Palestine.

'' His Lordship the Bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday afternoon at the Cathedral to 189 candidates, and took occasion to deliver a highly important pronouncement on the ' conscience clause,' connected with the proposed Bible-in-schools scheme.

_ The retreat of the Children of Mary at Remuera, which begins on November 20, will be preached by Rev. Father Taylor, S.M. A good sum has been- collected for the bazaar in connection with the Remuera parish, which opens on December 16. Special features will be an international tug-of-war and a spectacular display of skating.

The mission by the Marist Fathers at the Cathedral is proving phenomenally successful, the attendance being unusually large. On Thursday evening a special sermon on our Blessed Lady was preached by the Very Rev. Father O’Connell, S.M., after which there was a procession in her honor. Quite 200 persons receive Communion at the 6 o’clock Mass every week morning. - Last evening it was estimated that there were 2000 persons in the Cathedral. His Lordship the Bishop and Very Rev. Mgr. O’Leary were present in the sanctuary. Rev. Father McCarthy preached an eloquent sermon on ‘Faith.’ Pontifical Benediction followed. On Sunday morning the women of the parish approached the Holy Table in large numbers. Very Rev. Father O’Connell addressed them, and preached also at the 11 o’clock Mass. On next Sunday there will be a special Mass for the men, after which breakfast will be served in the large new building, now nearing completion, close to the Cathedral. ELLERSLIE. (From our Auckland correspondent.) November 7. The parish hall, Ellerslie, was packed to the doors last Monday night, when his Lordship the Bishop opened a bazaar, the proceeds of which are to be devoted to the erection of a new school. It is not yet twelve months since the Sisters of the Missions bought the ‘TeMarama’ property, and converted the residence into a convent. The largest rooms in the building were reserved as classrooms, and were sufficiently large then X- for that purpose. The population of Ellerslie has rapidly increased lately, and the number of children now being taught by the Sisters is greatly in excess of what it was a few months back. Many weeks ago it was realised by the Catholics of the district that a new school should be built without delay. A meeting was called, and it was decided to hold a bazaar in November. The ladies of the parish worked enthusiastically in the meantime, as was clearly proved by the attractive display of goods on the opening night. The

stalls were most artistically decorated, and' the display of goods was greatly admired. His Lordship Bishop Cleary entered the hall at 8 o clock. Seated near him on 'the stage were Rev. Fathers Ormond, Doyle, and Kirrane, Rev. Mr. Walker, members of the church committee, and other parishioners. ' Rev. Father Ormond, in. welcoming the Bishop, spoke of the urgent need of a new school, and : expressed 11s indebtedness to the ladies and the committee who had worked so earnestly in connection with the bazaar. His Lordship congratulated the stallholders, and hoped that their efforts .would be crowned with success. It was his desire to see a well-equipped school in Ellerslie very soon.
