(From an occasional correspondent.) ■-■■■ October 12. The devotion of the Forty Hours' Adoration will begin in St. Mary's Church on Sunday, November 10. Rev. Father S. Mahoney, left on Wednesday for Blenheim, to preach the occasional sermons during the Forty Hours' Adoration. ■".',/- & On last Sunday at St. Mary's Church there was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and procession in \ the evening, in which the different societies took part. Master Haydon Beck, a pupil of the Marist Brothers' School, was presented by his schoolmates with a travelling bag at the entertainment which was tendered' to him on Monday evening. A very successful euchre tournament was held in St. Joseph's Hall on Thursday evening. There was a good attendance. Mr. J. Miles had charge of the secretarial duties. The lady's prize was won by Mrs. Neylon and the gentleman's by Mr. Carroll. 'ls compulsory military training necessary?' was the subject debated by the members of the St. Aloysius' Conference on Friday evening. A great deal of interest was displayed, and although two teams had been selected, it was found on the night that several brothers who were not picked wished to speak on the subject. It was then decided to allow all present to take part in debate. A very spirited discussion ensued, some very good speeches being made. The Town Hall at Fordell was prettily decorated on last Sunday when eight children received First Communion at the Mass which was celebrated by Rev. Father S. Mahoney. The music was rendered by the Aramoho Choir. After Mass there was. a renewal of Baptismal vows. . Too much praise cannot be given to Messrs. Ruscoe, Provost, McGovern, and Mrs Richardson, who took a very active part in decorating the hall. The breakfast was attended to by Mesdames Ruscoe, McGovern, and J. Carroll. The local branch of the Hibernian Society was; founded a year ago on September 24, and in the mean--time has made satisfactory progress. It is to be hoped that every eligible Catholic man in the town will join the society. Three members have been granted clearances, while several have been received from other branches. At the last meeting of the branch it was resolved • that the members receive Holy Communion every month. The secretary has not yet completed the balance ( sheet of the first annual social, held on the 24th ult. He wishes to thank, on behalf of the so- ■ ciety, the ladies who so ably assisted with the supper, and also several members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society who helped.
