Reader of Long Standing.—You have not sent the Commissioner's letter as promised, but on the facts you have disclosed it seems clear that you are bound to fill in the form as requested. You are not being assessed as owner of the land, but solely •in respect to the mortgage of £3OOO, on which, up till 31st March last, you were presumably receiving income in the shape of interest. You should, however, we think, claim exemption for the £I4OO deducted by the Advances to Settlers Department. We are returning papers as requested.
