The proceeds will be devoted to paying off the interest on the parish debt. A social is being promoted to assist in the raising of funds for the erection of a church at Richmond, Surrey Hills district. A church is wanted there badly, and every effort will be made to carry out the work. At the Cathedral after the 11 o’clock Mass yesterday there ■ was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, which was continued until after Vespers, at which his Lordship the-Bishop presided. Rev. Father O’Doherty preached an impressive sermon on our Blessed Lady. The usual procession then took place and was followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The members of the musical branch of the Marist Brothers Old Boys’ Club left by express train last evening for the south, where they purpose giving concerts in the principal centres of the North and South Islands. They will also visit the West Coast. It is an excellent combination, and possesses a number of fine voices. Solo and part singing will be special features of their concerts. Patrons may expect... full value for their money. Mr. P. Clarke is musical director, and Rev. Father Holbrook (chaplain) joins the company later on. Arrangements for their concerts have been made in advance in several places by the local Marist Old Boys and Catholic Clubs. Special devotions are being held every evening during the month of May at St. Benedict’s Church. On last Sunday night a very eloquent sermon was preached by the Rev. Father Tigar, 0.P., on the intercession of the Mother of God. After the sermon there was a procession in honor of our Blessed Lady, during which the large congregation joined heartily in the singing of the hymns. The service was brought to a close by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament' which was given by Rev. Father Tigar, assisted by Rev. Fathers Flynn and Forde. On Sunday, May 19, there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from "the 11 o’clock Mass until the -evening devotions. The sermon in the evening will be preached by his Lordship the Bishop, who will also renew the solemn dedication of the parish to our Blessed Lady. ; -
