—.—- . ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON (From our own correspondent.) October 28 The new Seminary at Greenmeadows, Napier, will bo opened next week. Mr. Maurice Layery was admitted as a barrister, of the Supreme Court last Saturday by the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), on the motion of Mr. C. R. Dix. The Very Rev. Dean Regnault, S.M. (Provincial), left for the south on the 27th in order to be present at the ceremony in, connection with the enlargement of the Fairlie Church, which takes place on Sunday, October 29. The annual, sports meeting of St. Patrick’s College students takes place, at the Basin Reserve, on next Monday (October 30). . The Rev. Father James Tymons, S. is chairman of the committee, with Mr. A. Roche* as hon. secretary. The Rev. Father Ainsworth, S.M., has been conducting a successful retreat for the Children of Mary and the young women of the parish at St. Joseph’s* during the week. There were splendid attendances at the exercises, which will conclude to-morrow. The, devotion of the Forty Hours’ Adoration will commence in St. Joseph’s^Church, Buckle street, onnext Sunday. The sermon on Sunday, evening will be preached by- the Rev. Father Ainsworth, S.M., of Eltham, and Rev. Father Daly, of Upper Hutt, will preach on Monday evening. The death occurred yesterday of Miss Louisa Miller, daughter of ? -Major Miller, formerly of the West Coast. The interment) which was a private one, took place to-day. Messrs. G. E. Miller, of the Treasury

Department, and Robert Miller, of the Audit Department, are brothers of the deceased. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the bereaved relatives in their loss.—R.l.P. On October 16, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Hill street, the marriage took place of Mr. Alfred J. M. B. Nielson, of North-east Valley, Otago, and Miss Catherine Florence O’Brien, of Oreptiki, Wallace district, Southland. The Rev. Father Peoples officiated. Miss Burke (Christchurch) attended the bride as bridesmaid, and Mr. J. Duffy (Wellington) was the best man. The Tablet representative (Mr. Moriarty) is at present in Wellington actively engaged in enrolling new subscribers. He is meeting with great success, as a result, no doubt, of our hierarchy’s wish that a copy of the only Catholic paper of the Dominion should be found in every Catholic home, and backed up by the earnest exhortation of our clergy to the people on every possible occasion to support it. Mr. Moriarty will be here for some time yet. Mr. A. H. Casey (president of the Catholic Club), who is at present in England on business in connection with the legal firm of Casey and Moran, writing to the Rev. Father Yenning, S.M., stated that he had met Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Reichel in London, and that the number of passages booked for New Zealand was so great that they had to be arranged for months prior to sailing, hence his stay in England would be more protracted on this account than what he at first anticipated. The Sisters of the Sacred Heart Convent, Island Bay, who, in addition to the convent school, conduct the parish school also, have recently had to enlarge the parish school to doublq its former size owing to the increased number of children attending, at a cost of something like £4OO, and to aid the good Sisters in this work the, Yen. Archdeacon Devoy, S.M., , with his Island Bay committee, of which Mr. T. J. McCosker is secretary, arranged a most successful social, which took place at the Tutanekai Hall, Berhampore, on last Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance, among whom were the Yen. Archdeacon Devoy and the Rev. Fathers G. Mahoney and Herring. The deepest sympathy o is extended to Major J. O’Sullivan, Director of Military Stores, in the recent sad bereavement he and his family have suffered in the loss of his daughter, Miss Grace O’Sullivan, who was one of the victims of the sad drowning accident at Foxton. The late Miss O’Sullivan was well known and widely respected, whilst her pleasant and amiable disposition endeared her to all. The deceased was only 22 years of age. The body was only recovered yesterday, having been washed ashore at Otaki, and will be brought to Wellington, where the interment is to take place. —R.I.P. Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Reichel, who have been in Canada for nine months, are at present in England, where they will probably remain for some time. It will be remembered that Mr. Reichel was at one time Chief Electrician in the New Zealand Public Works Department, but that he gave up his appointment there to work his invention —the Reichel Automatic Fire Alarm. So far he has met with success, having sold the Canadian rights for a considerable sum, and having, also obtained the approval of the Underwriters’ Laboratories in Chicago, as well as of the American National Board of Engineers for Fire Prevention, Mr. Reichel will also spend some time on the Continent in connection with his invention, and he will probably leave England for Berlin next month. The seating accommodation of St. Patrick’s Hall was taxed to its utmost capacity on Thursday evening, when members of the Catholic Club and friends met, the occasion being the annual supper. In the unavoidable absence of the president of the club (Very Rev. Father O’Shea), Mr. J. McGowan (vice-president) occupied the chair.
