Westport

(From our own correspondent On Sunday last the members of the Hibernian Society approached the Holy Table in a. body. ,y ~ A en. Archpriest Walsh returns to Westport per S S Mapounka to-morrow (Thursday) after a two-months’ holiday at Rotorua. Tt H r v? rt f that 1 have to record the death (by accident) of Mr. AI. Williams, a gentleman well known in Catholic circles in Westport. Mr. Williams was the first president of the Westport branch of the Hibernian Society.—R.l.P. At the ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Hibernian Society last week Bro. J. Power, on behalf of the branch presented the secretary (Bro. D. Denneby) with a gold band ring as a token of the members’ appreciation of Irs work as an officer The president (Bro. ,1. Lambert), and Bro. U Gorman also spoke in eulogistic terms of the work done by Bro. Denneby. Bro. Denneby feelingly replied thanking the members for their handsome and unexpected gift. ~ .°" tb f evening of March 17 there was held in the Victoria theatre an Irish national concert under the auspices of St. Canice’s Club and the Hibernian Society. All the best local talent was represented, and the concert proved a complete success both financially and otherwise. The audience was large and appreciative, and encores were the rule of the evening. Towards the end of the programme the secretary (Mr. Gorman) thanked the audience for tueir attendance and also those who contributed to the
