DIOCESE OF AUCKLAND

(By Telegraph from our own correspondent.) October 10. The mail news giving an account of the ceremonies, followed by the social function, in connection with the consecration of our new Bishop, the Right Rev. Dr. Cleary, was read with pleasure in Auckland. A reception at once cordial and spontaneous will most assuredly be accorded our new Bishop. The seminary fund collection continues to be taken up in the various parishes throughout the diocese. The clergy complain of the apathy of the people towards this very necessary fund for the education of priests for the diocese. The devotion of the Forty Hours' Adoration commenced at the Sacred Heart Church, Ponsonby, at 10 o'clock Mass yesterday, and will conclude to-morrow morning. Large numbers all day on Sunday visited the neat little church in Ponsonby. This morning at 10 o'clock a large congregation was present. The altar was very tastefully decorated. At the last meeting of the local branch of the Hibernian Society a paper on ' The Hibernian Society ' by Bro. William Redmond, M.P., was read by Bro. M. J. Sheahan, and was greatly appreciated. The Holy Family Confraternity is making excellent progress. At the last meeting 140 members attended, when Rev. Father Wright gave an interesting discourse on Anglican Orders; showed their source and origin, and traced their course to the present day.
