The annual meeting of the Ladies of the St. Vincent de Paul Society takes place in St. Joseph's Hall on Friday afternoon. A. surprise party consisting of the members of the Social Club in connection with St. Patrick's Church invaded the presbytery on the evening of- July 26 (says the Tuapeka Times), the object being to make a presentation to. the Very Rev. Mgr. O'Leary in the shape of a handsome travelling rug. The unexpected guests were cordially welcomed, and an enjoyable social evening was spent, the members being entertained in the Monsignor's well-known hospitable manner. . . C. Collins (St. Joseph's) and J. Passmore (Cargill Road) laid an excellent trail along Wesley street and Macandrew road, striking up past Shiel's quarry and over some beautiful cross-country, coming out near the golf house. The trail then went in the direction of Green Island, where some ideal harrier country was negotiated. Here a turn was taken to the left, eventually striking down to the caves, which the members spent some time in inspecting, the scenery in this vicinity being very beautiful: From here the homeward turn was made, striking along the side of the cliffs overlooking the ocean, the trail eventually coming out at CargiU's Castle, from whence it struck down to the second beach and through St. Clair, along the back of Forbury Park, and finishing via Macandrew road to the school. After the run the members of St. Joseph's were hospitably entertained by the Cargill Road Methodist Hai~ riers. -
