OBITUARY

MRS. MORKANE, DUNEDIN. It is with sincere regret we have to report the death of Mrs. Morkane, relict of Mr. James Morkaue, who passed away at Christchurch on Saturday, the cause of death being heart failure. The deceased was a native of Cork, where she was born 63 years ago. Soon after her marriage she left with her husband for Melbourne, and after a brief stay there came on to Dunedin 45 years ago, since when, with the exception of a few years spent at Kumara, she had been a resident of Otago. The late Mrs. Morkane left Dunedin for Christchurch on Thursday of last week, and was taken suddenly ill on Saturday. She passed away in the evening, fortified by all the rites of the Church, of which she was a devoted and zealous member. During her last moments she was visited by J.he Sisters of the Missions and the Sisters of Nazareth. The remains were brought to. Dunedin by the express on Tuesday afternoon, and taken to St. Joseph's Cathedral, where a Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated on .Wednesday morning by his Lordship Bishop Verdon, Rev. Father Golden being assistant priest, Rev. Father Liston deacon, Rev. Father Buckley subdeacon, and Rev. Father Coffey', Adm., master of ceremonies. The other priests present were Very Rev. Mgr. O'Leary (Lawrence), Rev. Fathers O'Mailey and D. O'Neill (South Dunedin), Rev. Father Hearn (Port Chalmers), Rev. Father Woods (Oamaru), the clergy of Holy Cross College, and the Cathedral clergy. The solemn music was sung by the choir of the Dominican nuns. At the conclusion of the Mass the funeral left for the Southern Cemetery, where the interment took place. Rev. Father Coffey officiated at the graveside, and was assisted by the priests previously mentioned. The deceased leaves two sons (Rev. Father C. Morkane, Holy Cross College, and Dr. Morkane, late of Kumara) and five daughters (four of whom are religious, three being in New Zealand and one in Australia) to mourn their sad loss.—R.l.P.
