(From our own correspondent.) - October 3. Mr. Moriarty has been appointed foreman for the building of the new church. He has just completed a big

contract, the building of palatial offices and warehouses for the Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association, Timaru, and the experience gained thereat should be most useful to him in his new' position. • -

- Tho Very Roy. Father O' Sullivan, of tlie African Missions, gave two excellent" lectures in the Assembly Rooms on Tuesday and Wednesday*, last, taking as his subjects : ' Palestine ' and ' Egypt. 1 There was a large attendance on each evening. It is intended by Very Rev. Father O'Sullivan to. give a farewell lecture on ' Ireland ' in about six weeks' time, -the proceeds to go to the new church. The initial meeting for the new church bazaar took place in the Girls' School on Sunday afternoon. About fifty ladies -were present, and the Rev. Father Kerley, who has been asked by our parish priest to take charge of the bazaar details, occupied the chair. lii his opening statement the Rev. Father stated that Mr. T. Lynch and Mr. N. D. Mangos would respectively act as manager and secretary of the -bazaar, their previous experience well qualifying them for the post. The matter of stalls and stallholders was then gone into, and satisfactory arrangements were made for pushing on the preliminary work.

On Wednesday evening last a highly successful concert was given in the St. Andrews Public Hall by the members of the C.V.M. Society and lady friends. The performers journeyed from town in a special conveyance, and were hospitably treated. The hall was well filled, and the excellent programme provided was the best given in the district for some time past. Songs were rendered by the Misses Wederell, K. MoGrath, Lyall, Mrs. Foxon, and Messrs. McDougall and Rennie. Mr. J. C. Coombs added a violin solo. Miss B. Ward played the accompaniments with much taste. The dramatic section of the society concluded the programme with 'My Lord in Livery,' the little drama going off with great smoothness.
