OBITUARY

MRS. CATHERINE SHINE, HOKITIKA, There passed away recently at her residence, Hampden St., Hokitika (writes our Christchurch correspondent), in the person of Mrs. Catherine Shine, " a fervent and devoted Catholic and one who had borne a full share in the strenuous pioneering times. The deceased had resided in Hokitika since her arrival in the Dominion in 1870, and made a very wide circle of friends, who will learn with deep regret of her demise. She was the relict of Mr. John Shine, who predeceased her some years ago. She leaves a family of two sons — Mr. Thomas Cahill (manager of" Messrs. Holmes and Sons, Christchurch), and Mr. John Cahill, of her first family, and two sons and a daughter of her second — to whom the sympathy of- the whole West Coast community is extended. Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated "in St. Mary's Church by the Rev. Father Henry, who afterwards officiated at the interment in the Hokitika cemetery, the funeral being large and representative. — R.I. P.
