August 15. llio invitation social by Mesdames Brown and Doolan and Misses Ward, Oakley, and Rodgers in the Empire Hall on the 6th inst. in aid of their stall proved a great success m every way. The weekly subscriptions, in aid of the parish debt collected by the canvassers for the month of July amounted to over £30, which may be considered very good. Better results will no doubt be obtained for August. The Very Rev. Father Clune, C.SS.R., celebrated the 11 o clock Mass on Sunday, the feast of the Assumption, and also preached to a very large congregation in the evening. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament took plaoe from the 11 o'clock Mass xmtil the evening devotions. The annual meeting of St. Patrick's choir was held in tho library on Sunday last after Vespers, Mr. W. T. Ward (conductor) in the chair. Miss Brophy was elected secretary and Miss McGrath librarian. Several new membors wero elected. A sucessful debate took place in the Catholic Club rooms on Monday, August 2, the subject under discussion being 'freehold v. leasehold.' The Rev. Father O'Beirne and Messrs. Scanlon, O'Reilly, and Deaden supported the leasehold, and Messrs. P. Power, "Westmoreland, Oakley and Loughnan the freehold. On the vote of the audience' the decision was given in favor of. the leasehold side. ' The usual monthly euchre party of the Young Men's Club was held in the Zealanda Hall on Monday last. There was a very representative gathering of members and their friends. The first prize for ladies was won by Mrs Kavanagh, and the second by Miss McWilliams. Mr! UReilly won the first prize for gentlemen, a'nS Mr. M. O'Connor the second. Tho ladies supplied light refreshments.
