PRODUCE

Messrs. Donald Reid and Co. report : — We held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores on Monday, when we submitted a moderate catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. Competition was brisk, and we cleared the bulk of our catalogue at satisfactory prices. Values ruled as under: — Oats. — Stocks on hand are now light, and although thore lias been better inquiry for prime Gartons and sparrowbills quotations show little or no change. Grain of inferior quality is slow of sale for local requirements at late prices. Quotations : Prime milling, Is 8d to Is Bid; good "to best feed, Is 6£d to Is 7^d; inferior to medium, Is 3d to Is sid per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat. — There is no change to report in the local market during the week. All prime lots have been taken by millers at quotations, prime velvet being especially in demand. Medium quality has ready sale as fowl wheat, which is in short supply. Quotations: Prime milling, 4 s 6£d to 4s 7£d ; prime velvet, to 4s 8d ; medium milling and best fowl wheat, 4s 5d to 4s 6d ; medium fowl wheat, 4s to 4s 4d ; broken and damaged, 3s to 3s 9d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes. — The market has been heavily supplied during last Aveek, and prices have eased considerably. The greater portion of consignments coming to hand is scarcely ripe, and as these will not keep it is necessary to dispose of them at once. Quotations : Best freshly dug lots, £3 10s to £3 15s ; medium and stale, £3 to £3 7s 6d per ton (bags included). Chaff. — The market has been again heavily supplied this week, and prices in consequence show a decline on those lately ruling. Prime quality is the only class which meets with ready sale, medium and inferior being almost unsaleable. Quotations : Best oaten sheaf, £3 2s 6d to £3 ss ; medium to good, £2 17s 6d to £3 ; light and discolored, £2 5s to £2 10s per ton (sacks extra). Straw. — Quotations : Oaten, 37s 6d to 40s ; wheaten, 37s 6d to 40s per ton (pressed).
