- Last week the local branch of the Hibernian Society held tiheir quarterly meeting. This brancH, although only in existence about two years is making splendli'd progress. At present the meifißqrship is 31. Several candidates are to be proposed shortly, and it is the secretary's wish that by the end of the present year the membership should be at least 50. The funds " - are also in a healthy state. The sick fund has a credit of £50, and the balance of assets over liabilities is about £80. This must be very gratifying to the officers of the branch. On Friday evening last a very pleasing function was held -at Norma<n»by in the shape of a- farewell social to Mr. Clarkson, who, for many years, has been ' headmaster of the State school there. The gathering was very representative, and the highest compliments were Paid to Mr. Clarkson, who has beere appointed director of the Technical School at Napier. During the evening the guest was presented with a travelling bag and rug, and, also with a Maori mat by one of his native scholars. Amongst these present were Messrs. Major m.P.. and Cargjll (member of the Education Board).
