Father Lowham, 0. -SS.R. ; The funeral of the late Mr. Owen MeAr/lle took place from the Sacred Heart Basilica on Monday. A Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Mblmey, S. M. The* Rev.' Father Herbert, S.M., officiated at » the graveside. The funeral procession was a lengthy pne, prominent men of all circles being present. Six new class rooms have been added to St. Patrick's College. Three are on the ground floor and three more above. They are designed to meet the most up-to-date requirements, being well lighted and roomy. The walls have been so constructed - as to prevent instruction gi . en in one room from interfering with that given in another;* Thiese rooms will supply a long felt want, add to the comfort of teachers and students alike, and generally result in greater efficiency. The annual meeting of the United Irish League was held in' St., Patrick's Hall on Tuesday evening, ' JMr. Martin Kennedy presiding over a large and enthusiastic audience. Reference ~was made in the report to the work dene by the Society in. arranging lectures on Irish subjects, fyy means .of which interest in the Irish movement was greatly stimulated, and a loyalty to the - cause fostered among young New Zealanders. The election of officers resulted as follows : — President, Mr. Martin. Kennedy (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. P. J. O'Reean, D. McLaren, S. J. Moran, .and M. O'Kane ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Finlay ; executive, Messrs. J. Breen, T. P. Lyons, G-. Dee, J. Connally and J. E. Fitzgerald ; auditors, Messrs, A. C. Bretherton, and J. McG-owan. Resolutions of sympathy with" 'the hereaved. families of the late Mr. Aloysius Mac Donald, and the late Mr. Owen McArdle were passed. Both' of those pentlemen were memibiers of the League, It "was decided that the executive should meet* on the' first Tues- : day in each month at St. Patrick's Hall, and that a general meeting of members ■ ~be held every quarter. The League is to be congratulated on agapn having the ser-

vices of Mr. Kennedy as president. In Mr. Finlay, as secretary and treasurer, the members possess an energetic officer, to whose efforts the past,, success of the League is in a great measure due. The results of the Junior Civil Service examinations are to hand. Of thirty-five candidates entered by St., Patriot's College twenty-nine passed, and of these latter twi nty-lhree were placed in the credit list. The gained first and third places- among the Wellington can- ' dJidates. The successful students are as follow :— W. Ryan, J. Rochford, A. Cullen, J. Ryan, J. Dutggan, F. O Rfcilly, R. Cameron, B. Leo (all of whom passed with credit) ; T. McLean, H. Rasmusscn, C. Baker, L. De\ine, F. O'Brien, and E-. J. Burke. These rtsulis are highly satisfactory and most encouraging to the t atholic community. It is clear that _. religious instruction in no way interferes with secular efficiency. Ihe College is rapidly establishing a title to pre-emim-cnce amongst the secondary educational institutions of the Dominion.
