A KIND JUDGE
A certain judge who once presided over a criminal court was famous as one of the most compassionate men who ever sat on the bench. His softness ofheart, however, did not prevent him from doingt his-, duty as judge in that court. A man who had been convicted of stealing a. small amount was brought into the court for sentence. He looked very sad and hopeless, and the court was much moved by. his contrite appearance. ' Have you ever been sentenced to imprisonment ? '" the judge asked. ' Never '.—never ! ' exclaimed the prisoner, bursting into tears. '••Don't cry, don't cry,' said the jußge, consolingly? 1 you're going to be now.'
