Christchurch Catholic Club
(From an occasional correspondent.) The success of the recent Spanish-Columbian Festival was contributed to' in no small degree by the members of the Uatholic . Club. The side -shows, which provided _so -much mirth and amusement, and which were such a feature of the bazaar, were the""*work of its members, who spared no effort .to ensure the success of their undertaking. "The net profits amounted to £50, which must be considered highly satisfactory. Special mention must be made of the following for their efforts : Miss Pope, Messrs. 'JSi. O'Reilly, W. . Chamoin,* T. O'Connell, D. O'Connell, D. Keane, F. Ruck, J. Dobbs, D. Edmonds, E. O'Connor, R. Walker, , A. banning, L. Donnelly, T. Adams, J.- O'Sullivan, P.. McNamara, and the club's secretary, Mr. J. L. Ley don.' The principal parts in the recent bazaar were filled by club members, J. -Devenport being stage manager, H. Rossiter musical director, M. Finlay Indian Chief, R. McNamara Christopher Coluirbus. A boxing class, under the tuition .of Mr. J. Dobbs, has been started in connection with the club, and, judging by the in- . terest shown, promises to be a success. The annual meeting of the club (which has been delayed somewhat on account of the bazaar) will take place . towards the end of the month. The past year has •been one of the most successful on record, both from a financial aspect and from" the increase in membership point of view.
