Messrs. Donald Reid and Co., report as follows :— We held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce al our stores, Vogel street, to-day. There w.as the usual attendance of buyers. Our catalogue included most of the. lines in demand locally, and withfair competition the bulk of the lots on offer were quitted at prices on a par with late quotations. Values ruled as under :— • Wheat. — The market is firm at prices which show a decided improvement on late values. The quantity on offer locally is extremely small, and even at the advanced rates ruling holders are not readily disposed to sell. Fowl wheat is scarce, and the demand is being supplied chiefly with medium milling quality. We quote : Seed lines, 4s 10"d to 5s ; prime milling, 4s 8d to 4s 9d ; medium milling and whole fowl wheat, 4s 6d to i4s 7d ; broken and damaged, 4s to 4s 5d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes. — Consignments continue to come forward freely. For really prime lots there is slightly better demand, but ordinary sorts are not easily disposed, of, while for unsound lots there is no sale; Prime Derwents have best inquiry, and these are saleable , at £2 15s to £3 2s 6d ; ..iredium, £2 5s to .£2 10s ; up-to-dates and other white sorts are in full supply, and' only best quality have any attention at £2 7s Cd to .£2 10s ; medium to good' are being quitted slowly at £2 to £2 5s ; inferior are "almost unsaleable at £1 10s 1 to £1 15s per ton (bags included). &- * Chaff.— Prime, bright, heavy oaten sheaf maintains its popularity amongst buyers, and is the only class meeting with ready sale. . Medium sorts are only saleable in sirall quantities, while inferior lines are quite out of favor. We quote : Best oaten sheaf, £5 5s to £5 10s ; choice, to £5 12s 6d ; medium to good, £4 10s to £5 2s 6d ; light and inferior, £3 15s to £4 ss. Oaten straw chaff is in over-supply, and has slow sale at £2 5s to £2 15s ; wheaten, £2 2s 6d to £2 7s 6cl per ton (bags extra").
